Dax Collins serves as a treasurer for the South Central Regional Sewer District (rural wastewater utility) and teaches history at Ivy Tech, as well as occasionally doing business consulting with local companies. He is retired from the business he started in Monroe County, and it has become a goal of his to give something back to the friends and the community that has supported him.
Collins’ experience working as a trustee for another utility led to his interest in his REMC. The events of the last year convinced him that the co‐op could use some new people to oversee how it’s run. He feels the members and employees deserve proper financial management to keep the utility strong and viable. Collins says he will “immediately work to reduce board compensation, eliminate unnecessary travel and insurance expenses, and make sure that members understand how and why our money is being spent.”
Collins received his degree in history and political science from Indiana University in the late 1980s. He, along with his wife and daughter, reside on the west side of Monroe County.
